POPSTARS AGAINST NAZI’S

POPSTARS AGAINST NAZI’S

In collaboration with BONNE, Sophie Straat releases the banner T-shirt collection POPSTARTS AGAINST NAZI’S.

The project follows the controversy surrounding a recurring moment during Sophie’s shows, in which she asks white men in the mosh pit to step back to make room for FLINTAs. After a clip of this was shared online, Sophie received a large number of hateful comments and threats.

The lack of support from the media, venues, and the music industry highlights how important it is for the cultural sector to collectively speak out in favor of artistic freedom and against the normalization of far-right and fascist ideologies.

POPSTARS AGAINST NAZI’S shows that pop culture should make speaking out the norm. It should turn it into pop culture itself. By bringing artists together around a single, clear message, we’re creating a visible and collective counter-voice against the rise of fascism in the Netherlands and its (online) normalization.
