As a prelude to the collaboration between DFA and Bonne Suits at IDFA 2024, we will screen the Dutch documentary film The Man Who Looked Beyond the Horizon by Martijn Blekendaal, shown at IDFA in 2019.
With our focus on local arts and culture, it is important for us to commemorate artists who are no longer with us and continue to honor their works. In tribute to Bas Jan Ader, we will release two suits next week in an Old Blue colorway, reminiscent of the two-piece ensemble Ader wore in his famous video performance Fall II.
Bas Jan Ader is known for his deeply poetic and minimalist works, often centered around themes of vulnerability, loss, and disappearance.
His work, marked by a conceptual approach and existential themes, resonates with the approach of Bonne Suits, known for its clean lines, simplicity, and egalitarian ethos. Both share a sensibility rooted in Dutch cultural traditions of minimalism, directness, honesty, and functionality.
