APPIE BOOD 'EEN OVERDOOD'

APPIE BOOD 'EEN OVERDOOD'

A solo exhibition by Appie Bood (1965). On show from February 17th, 2024 until March 10th, 2024.

Two seemingly incompatible worlds - that of life and that of death - are, in reality, inseparable. In fact, an overdose of death is a part of our everyday life. Artist, curator, and collector Appie Bood invites you to explore death and break the boundary between life and death in EEN OVERDOOD.

Bood is known for his exploration of both familiar and lesser-known aspects of life. This was previously evident in his exhibition OVER.LEVEN, where he transformed the presence and absence of objects and people into a new reality. The themes of meeting and losing, holding on and letting go of repetition, and the rhythm of life are at the core of Bood's work and exhibitions.

EEN OVERDOOD at Galerie de Schans encompasses the pain and uncomfortable beauty of loss. With his work, Bood aims to demonstrate in this upcoming exhibition that true love cannot be separated, even when death is imminent. Bood focuses not only on the death of loved ones but also on other forms of death, including innocence, reputation, and time.

Through EEN OVERDOOD, Bood wants to open the conversation about loss and death by asking questions about them. He lets death contend with art. EEN OVERDOOD is a provocative invitation to contemplate the various aspects of loss, death, and the role these concepts play in our consciousness.
